LOOKING FOR FREE E-MAIL? THERE'S PLENTY AVAILABLE
Using a Web-based e-mail service has its conveniences. Most of them
scan attachments for viruses, so they're safe. And you can easily
access your e-mail from anywhere.
Among the most popular services are Yahoo! and Hotmail. The latter, by
MSN, requires you to sign up for Microsoft's .Net Passport. This was
intended to be a ubiquitous way to access sites and services on the
Web. It has never really taken off; in fact, eBay just quit using it.
Google also has a test mail system. Membership is by invitation only.
Should you be one of the anointed few, you could keep up to 1 gigabyte
of mail on Google's server. The Web-based e-mail services are free.
