Computers are great for playing sound files. With the right equipment
you can hear Dr. Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech or
John F. Kennedy's famous "I am a Berliner" speech. If you close your
eyes, you feel as if you were present for those memorable speeches.
They're not so great when it comes to creating speech. Most words
sound, well...synthesized.
AT&T is striving to make text-to-speech sound as authentic as possible.
Listen to male and female voices say whatever you type in--even
foreign languages. Type in your name and listen. I typed in my name and
it just did not sound right.
